PHUKET TO BANGKOK TO DUBAI TRAVEL DAY…Oh my

We took Air Asia from Phuket to Bangkok and sat 2nd row..again, not 1st or business class, only priority boarding. There was a man who sat window next to me and literally in the first 120 seconds he was snoring for the rest of the flight. I couldn’t help but giggle the whole time.

We arrived to Don Mueang (DMK) airport after a short flight to grab our luggage, then over to the taxi area which seemed a bit overwhelming as it was almost a small auditorium size waiting area. Our number was 881 and it was at 774-it took only about 20 minutes for our turn. On our way to Suvarnabhumi (BKK), we had a few tolls: 70 baht, 50 baht, and 25 baht for about a 40 minute drive, costing us 413 baht, or $13.22, not including the tolls.

Here is my last Thai meal in BKK airport

Oh, and their Singha keg at the airport restaurant…

Off to Dubai we go! 6 hours and 17 minute flight time. The Emirates flight was mostly comfy as we got the entire middle row of 4, so we got to spread out again. The food was a chicken dish with black peppers, rice, veggies, and some red wine that was quite tasty! Oh and some red wine…

We arrived to Dubai airport and have to go thru their passport control which was kind of confusing, thank goodness they speak English because the signs were not that clear…Quick line, and now we’re off to baggage claim! Aaaannnd I have to tinkle…I find the bathroom, open a stall and the toilet is missing…ok so i open another door, that’s weird, how do they not have signs on the door…and another, what the hell???…3rd door-guess this is where it’s happening, these are their toilets??…..yes, apparently, these are their toilets…

So I prepare myself to squat, thank goodness I was wearing capris to avoid any splashing on my pants. I’m looking around to see if there are any instructions or something to possibly look at to distract myself from what I feel like is an unusual way for me to use the bathroom. Last time I squatted was in an alley drunk back in the day…Thank goodness I am flexible and can sit in a squat-I’m also wondering how older people or inflexible people squat with no hand rails to hold on to dear life and not fall in the catch basin. I’m patiently waiting to tinkle, and apparently having performance anxiety from this new way of urinating. Finally, I go-real painfully slow, and as I’m watching the dribbles, I realize I should probably go in the hole so I pat-pat my feet backwards to aim in the unknown black hole. Now I’m thinking, if I had to #2, would I have to aim in the hole??? Oy…..

Oh, and btw, no purse hooks-I only had my phone and my wipes, so my phone went in my bra and wipes in hand. I’m so glad I travel with wet wipes and tissue, cuz all they have in the stalls were ass blasters…oh, and a trash for sanitary napkins, I guess, cuz there was zero toilet paper in this restroom…

Ok cool, I’m done-now what…On the wall is a fancy sensor (but no toilet) where you wave your hand and the hole flushes quite aggressive and angry. Im watching the water flush like a monsoon as I’m standing over the black hole and I’m NOT getting wet. I seriously couldn’t believe how strong of a flush it was, and I didn’t get sprinkled on. I seriously had to flush it again, just to make sure!

I hear Eddie from the hallway calling my name a few times, as I was probably in there for 20 minutes-in complete awe and excited I experienced the infamous hole in the floor I’ve heard about, just never experienced first hand. I would have thought I’d see this in Thailand, not in Dubai! Finally, I leave and am so excited to tell Eddie my new findings, he didn’t believe me so I show him the picture..Eddie said “what if you have to shit?” “Yes dear, you squat and shit…you wave your hand on the wall and water swirls around and goes in the hole….” He said if this is what they have at the W Hotel, we’re gonna have a problem lol…All I have to say is I am soooo glad my hypnosis for public bathrooms from several years ago still works…

We jump in a taxi that was 73 aed ($19.87 usd) and head off to the W Hotel where we are greeted and sent to the 30th floor for check in. By the way, our driver kept pulsating the gas and brakes I wanted to die….

Wow this is a swanky hotel, I forgot how much I love the W Hotel!!

We have been up since 530am, and arrived at 830pm, but remember Dubai is 3 hours behind Thailand, so really its 1130pm! Omg we are exhausted, but we head over to Zoco for a Mexican dinner where Eddie ordered a skirt steak, I got 3 steak, chorizo, and cheese tacos with 2 Modello Especial for 390 aed, or $106.18!!! I knew it was pricey here, but I think Vegas would have been less. At least it was MUCH better than the New York Steakhouse in Bangkok…yes, clearly I’m still sour about that!

We got back to the room after dinner around 11pm, or 2am Thailand time…Our bodies are so confused with these time changes…But hey, we get to sleep in past 530am since the concierge wont be here till 9am…

Our room view!
