Ron of Japan in Northbrook, Illinois has been a tradition of ours since I was 14 years old!
For several years, every birthday, anniversary, and any special occasion was celebrated here! Kristefer wanted to come here for his golden 21st birthday! I even got him in the background lol!

Fire cooked veggies!

Last time we came was for Kayleen’s birthday, where we noticed minor changes-like the hostess, serving, and chef staff is more diverse now, but the food remained the same for almost 30 years (I just did the math and cant believe it’s been that long that we’ve been going there!).
Eddie and Kristefer gets the beef fried rice, and it was the same!

Well, it’s been the same until we had the shrimp…The shrimp is different, the main entree and appetizers we come there for. Both Kayleen and Eddie were upset it had a rubberier consistency, as if it were overcooked, except that it wasn’t overcooked. I asked our server if they changed the shrimp and told her what was different, and she said she would check but never came with an answer.
It’s definitely worth another try, as maybe they tried a new shrimp supplier as a mistake….hopefully.

They also always sing a Japanese version of Happy Birthday, and we had green tea, vanilla, and chocolate ice cream, and salted caramel cheesecake.

Regardless, we all had a great time celebrating Kristefer’s birthday! Happy Birthday!!!
