BANGKOK DAY 2

96 degrees hot and sunny…WINNINGGG!!!

We stopped off for breakfast at the Executive lounge where Cindy greeted us by names, and remembered what we ordered the morning before, and asked if we would like the same thing…wow, I’m impressed! Then she dropped this off to us…so sweet!! I wish I knew what the “K.” stood for lol

Cindy suggested we go to the Weekend Market instead of the floating markets, because it was too late to go (9am), and that the Weekend Market is much bigger with more stuff. Well she was right-so overwhelmingly gigantic..so many people, so many things to look at! Just when you think you’re done, it keeps going, this place is neverending…and HOT!!!!

We came across an ice cream stand that had toppings like my mom used to put in halo-halo when she made it for me, so of course I had to order…yes, just like I remembered!

We picked up some personalized items that we watched them make for 400 baht (or $12.85 usd)…

Then we got our 1st Thai massages at 200 baht each…$6.42 for 45 minutes…Eddies gal seemed to work him good, while mine probably thought I needed a relaxing one, maybe cuz I’m a girl…wish I knew how to tell her more pressure, but she kept looking at me all seductive while massaging…kinda creepy, so I watched Eddie the whole time…oh well, maybe next one…

450 baht for ipad case and journal

The food is amazing here! The fish!! Yummmmm

We are terrible at bargaining, but we may have saved a whole $1 by our negotiating skills lol. They’d start for example 500 baht, and we’d end up at 450 baht, saving us a whole whopping $1.61…oh well, the way we looked at it, we spent $14.46 for 5 pashmina scarves…

Grab ride to hotel was 165 baht from the Weekend Market, while taxis wanted 300 baht. That Grab app saved us from the high-priced taxi drivers.

Next stop was the Jim Thompson House. We’re not (actually I’m not) group tour people, but Eddie wanted to see what it was all about since it was 4.5 stars. I’m more like see it and off to the next. I don’t do well with slow tours, and don’t ask many questions. We had to leave our bags in a locker, couldn’t touch anything, not allowed to take pictures inside the house, and had to take our shoes off. It was cool to know his story, that he made silk famous and he disappeared walking on a beach…here is a picture of his living room…

Something to keep in mind: tuk tuk drivers get a fat commission from certain places they take you, so they’ll try to push you to go places like RAM, jewelry shops, and certain markets pay them to take you there.

Of course, we had to stop by Skybar in Lebua Hotel where The Hangover was filmed. The hotel seems pretty chic with lots of busy traffic-not the kind of hotel I would want to stay at, but it was cute! We were escorted to the 64th floor where The Skybar is. The outside had a great view, but was kind of small. They had sofa seating and standing tables, it was a revolving door with people coming and going.

My guess is it’s cuz the beverages were pricy. My drink and Eddie’s choice of one beer was 710 baht each, or $50 usd for TWO drinks…There was a glass of bubbly for 2900 baht, or $96 for one glass!! I am so glad my drink was delish!

We then went off to dinner at the famous steak house in the JW Marriott, New York Steakhouse. It had great reviews, so of course we had to give it a try. Eddie ordered the 14oz rib eye for 2600 baht, and 2 beers, and I ordered the sea bass for 980 baht, and a glass of prossecco. We really wanted to like the food since our whole stay at the JW was phenomenal, but as how Eddie put it, the steak was in same category as Outback and Lonestar. Unfortunately, I’m not sure I got seabass-there were lots of grey veiny things throughout, and it wasn’t buttery like it always is when I order. Neither of us finished our food, and needless to say, I was pretty sour over the 5400 baht, or $180 dinner we didn’t like. Good thing we have reservations to Steak 48 when we get back!

I was sad to leave the JW Marriott since we had such an amazing experience….we seriously can’t stop talking about how the service was over the top!!

All in all, with it being 95 degrees, hot and sunny, it wasn’t humid or dry…just sweaty and very tolerable for 95 degrees…

Off to Phuket in the morning!!
